I was born and raised in Haiti Aside from my academic aspiration, I’m interested in interpretation, specifically medical interpretation. My desire is to reach toward a higher standard and prove to myself that I have the talent and skills to realize my dreams, while also setting a positive example for those that come behind me.

B.J. Epstein, who graduated from Bryn Mawr in 2001, is a senior lecturer in literature and translation at the University of East Anglia in England. She’s also a writer, editor, and Swedish-to-English translator. She is the author of Are the Kids All Right? The Representation of LGBTQ Characters in Children’s and Young Adult Lit; Translating Expressive Language in Children’s Literature; and Ready, Set, Teach!; the editor of two books on translation in the Nordic countries and co-editor of Queer in Translation; and the translator or writer of many other essays, articles, short stories, poems, and other texts. Her most recent translation is The Bird in Me by Sara Lundberg. She is currently co-editing a book about LGBTQ children’s lit from around the world, writing a book about breastfeeding in literature, and translating a children’s book about the Swedish artist Hilma af Klint. Naomi Faber is a German American student planning to graduate from Bryn Mawr in 2024. She has lived in Berlin for most of her life where she picked up a particular fondness for German literature and poetry. Naomi has always been interested in exploring the intersectionality between her identities as a dual citizen of mixed race and enjoys creative practices that allow her to do so.

Sonya is an international student from Ireland studying at Bryn Mawr College. She started learning Irish at Sacred Heart College, Omagh; her local secondary school. She loved the language, and wanted to learn further. She is now studying Irish at the University of Pennsylvania, through taking night classes. She also started learning Spanish at Bryn Mawr. She loves both languages and she intends to continue with them both in the future.

Mats Kempe was born in Stockholm in 1966. He debuted as an author with a short story collection in 1996 and since then has published eight more books. Kempe has been the International Secretary for the Swedish Writers’ Union and is on the jury for The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award. His novel Havet (The Sea) came about during his grieving process throughout the long-drawn-out time when his father was dying, and also during his wife’s period of illness. Sandy Denny’s music had a surprisingly comforting effect on Kempe during this period. Sandy Denny’s own father, Neil Denny, became the protagonist of the novel. Havet turned into an attempt to understand what makes life worth living. Neil Denny survived his family – Sandy, her brother David, and their mother Edna – for eighteen years. Although he lost his entire family, Neil chose to live out his life, alone in an apartment in Wimbledon.

Agnès Peysson-Zeiss is the Coordinator of the Intensive Language sequence in French, and of the Teaching Assistant Training Workshop. Educated in France in the pedagogy of teaching French to foreigners, she is a specialist as well of 19th and 20th-century francophone literature.

Trishna Devi Rao is an Indian-American student at Bryn Mawr College, and is a member of the Class of 2023. She grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana, in Montreal, Canada, and in Moscow, Russia, but spent most of her life in Bridgewater, New Jersey. Although English is her first language, she speaks, reads, and writes in Telugu (with her grandmother as a teacher) and can speak a little Hindi (with her mother and Bollywood movies/music as teachers). Trishna wishes to become a better writer and a better storyteller in both Telugu and English. She intends to be an International Studies major and a Russian minor.

My Anh Tran ’22 Born and raised in Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam, going to the U.S. for college was my first independent move from my family. My main interests are science, arts, music, and foreign language. Vietnamese is my mother tongue, and I picked up English in middle school. I also started Russian in high school and plan to continue learning this language in college. I am particularly fascinated by the interaction between languages and hope to explore it at a deeper level in the future.

Sweeta Yaqoobi is a fourth-year student at Bryn Mawr College from Kabul, Afghanistan. She is a Political Science major with double minors in History and Creative Writing. She grew up reading and writing poetry in her native language, Farsi. Sweeta will be perusing her passion in writing at NYU, where she will be attending the M.F.A Creative Writing Program.

Millicent Auma, is an international student from Kenya. As a psychology and computer science double major, she is interested in web development and user experience design. In her role, she largely works on the design of the website from its inception. She puts together ideas discussed by the team and drafts wireframe which she then implements using WordPress, html and CSS. As an international student, Millicent is very excited to be part of this project because it encourages her and other bilingual and multilingual student to express themselves in different languages.

Previously a CLIR/DLF Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow in the Digital Liberal Arts at Middlebury College, she has also served as the Co-Director for Our Marathon: The Boston Bombing Digital Archive and the project manager for the Women Writers Project.
